Some editor features do not have a visible button. They open from a typed trigger. The slash menu is the main one. Two more are easy to miss: the colon for icons and the dollar sign for CMS fields.

Put the cursor on an empty block and type /. The insert menu opens.
Keep typing part of the item name to filter it. The match ignores case and accents, and the fragment can sit anywhere in the label. For example, /head shows Header 1, Header 2, and Header 3. Use the up and down arrows and press Enter, or click an item. Escape closes the menu. Backspace with nothing typed closes it too.
The menu only opens at the start of a block. If / does nothing, press Enter to start a new paragraph or use the plus handle next to a block.
The list depends on where the cursor is. This is why some entries seem to disappear.
Section only appears at the page level.
Form fields only appear inside a form.
Menu link only appears inside a menu. The menu version of Dropdown also only appears there; inside a form, Dropdown is a form field.
Submit button only appears inside a form.
Repeater does not appear inside another repeater.
Sign in, Sign up, Log out, and Forgot password forms need end-user login to be useful, but they still appear in the menu.
Saved components appear under Components, using the names you gave them.
The editor filters by the label it shows, not by a fixed command code. Matching ignores case and accents, so a fragment from anywhere in a label works. On an English interface these fragments work:

Inside a menu, /dropdown gives you a menu dropdown, not a form field.
In another language, type part of the translated label. The search follows the language you see, so in Spanish /encabez finds Encabezado 1, and in Hungarian /cimsor finds Címsor 1 — with or without the accents.
Icons are not inserted from the slash menu. They have their own trigger.
Type : at the start of a block or after a space, then at least one letter. For example, type :heart or :arrow.
A grid of icons opens. Keep typing to search Iconify, use the arrow keys to move, and press Enter to insert one.
The icon is inserted inline, with a space after it. It sits in the text like a character, so it can appear before a label, inside a button, or at the end of a sentence.
By default, an icon matches the size and color of the text around it. If it looks too small or too faint, change the text style around it.
Search terms are usually English. A search for arrow, cart, or mail will find more than a search for a concept.
Menu icons are different. A menu link has its own icon picker in the Menu tab.
Inside a repeater or on an item page, type $ to open the field picker. Keep typing part of a field name to filter the list; the match ignores case and accents and can sit anywhere in the name. Choose a field to insert its value.
This is how a template shows the current item's title, image, or price. Read Variables and conditions for formatting and conditions.
The query does not match any label. Try a shorter word.
The cursor is in the wrong place. Form fields need a form. Menu links need a menu.
The block type cannot contain the item. A section cannot live inside a column, for example.
The editor is in another language and the label is translated. Type a fragment of the label you see; accents and case do not matter.
If you cannot get the slash menu to open, use the plus handle next to a block. It offers the same insert actions without typing.
Press Enter to start an empty paragraph.
Type /form and choose Contact form.
Click inside the form and type /email to add an email field.
Add a short answer field with /short.
Type /submit if you need another button.
In a text block, type :check and choose a checkmark icon.
In a repeater, type $ to insert an item field.
