Collection pages

Collections can generate two public pages: a list page and an item page. They give you a working archive and detail view without building the structure from scratch.

Last updated

The list page

The list page shows the collection's items. It lives at the collection slug, for example:

example.com/blog

It usually contains a repeater that lists the items. Remake creates a starting layout with the main fields, and you can style it like any other page.

The item page

The item page shows one item. Its address adds the item's slug:

example.com/blog/spring-collection

The page is a template. It uses variables tied to the current item, such as the title, cover image, and body. When a visitor opens a different item, the same template shows that item's content.

Turn pages on or off

When you create a collection, you can choose Create list and item pages. You can also turn pages on later in the collection settings.

Turning pages on creates both pages and adds them to the page list. Turning them off removes the pages and their design. Turning them on again creates fresh pages, so any design work on the old pages is lost.

Edit the pages

Open the collection's list or item page from the page selector, or from the collection settings. Design them like any other page.

On the item page, a preview bar lets you choose which item to show. Use it to check that the layout works for a short item and a long one, and for an item with and without an image.

A repeater can link every row to its own item page. Open the Repeater tab and turn on the item link.

The link uses the item's slug, so each row points at the right page automatically. If the collection slug or the item slug changes, the link follows the new address.

The item page can include previous and next links through the Links tab. This helps visitors move through a series without going back to the list.

Use them when the order matters, such as a series of articles or a guided tour. They are less useful for a product catalog, where people usually jump to what they want.

Page URLs and settings

Collection pages have a managed URL. Their address comes from the collection slug and the item slug, so you cannot change it in page settings.

You can still edit the page title, description, social image, and login requirement in page settings.

Publishing

The pages need to be published like any other page. New items do not need to be published, because items go live when you publish the item.

If you change the collection's fields or the page design, publish again so the live site uses the update.

A simple starting recipe

For a blog:

  1. Create a Posts collection with a name, slug, cover, excerpt, body, and published date.

  2. Turn on list and item pages.

  3. Open the list page and style the repeater and cards.

  4. Open the item page and arrange the title, cover, body, and date.

  5. Use the preview bar to check a few different posts.

  6. Turn on the item link in the repeater.

  7. Publish the pages.

Read Repeaters for the list controls, and Variables and conditions for the item page fields.
